愛使你走起路來像肥胖的金手錶

The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry

Took its place among the elements.

接生婆拍打著你的腳掌 你赤裸裸的哭喊在人世中佔有一席之地

Our voice echo, your arrival. New statue.

我們的聲音呼應著 渲染著 強調著嬰兒的來臨  新的雕像

In a drafty museum, your nakedness

Shadows our safety. We stand round blankly as walls.

在通風不錯的博物館 你的赤裸壟罩著我們的安全 我們像石牆一樣茫然的站在這裡

I’m no more your mother  →有想撇清對嬰的責任的意味 
Than the cloud that distils a mirror to reflect its own slow

Effacement at the wind’s hand.

就好像烏雲撒下一面鏡子 映照著自己 你的影像消失於風的擺佈

All night your moth-breath

Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen:

A far sea moves in my ear.

整晚你飛蛾般的呼吸撲到粉色玫瑰上(棉被) 我醒來 聽到遠方的海聲傳入耳中

One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral

In my Victorian nightgown.

一有哭聲 我很快的跳起來 穿著維多利亞式睡衣的我 行動笨重象牛 你張開的嘴 純淨的像一隻貓    窗戶的床格

Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try

You handful of notes;

The clear vowels rise like balloons.

泛白和吞噬單調的星星 你發出很多聲音 有些清晰的母音似乎可以辨認出來

Literal metaphorical meaning (隱喻)

作者寫這樣的作品

是跟自己的經歷有關吧

老公外遇

對於孩子

她就不會那麼喜歡

對嬰兒

只是盡到做母親應盡的義務

沒有那種 當母親 該有的喜悅

沒有那種當母親 看著嬰兒的模樣 該有的甜蜜笑容…

或許 因為她看見嬰兒

就會想到她老公的事

所以 想擺脫…
